Artificial intelligence is constantly evolving, and according to Yann LeCun, Chief AI Scientist at Meta, a "new paradigm of AI architectures" will emerge within the next three to five years. This advancement will mark a shift from current AI models and pave the way for a decade of revolutions in robotics.

Towards a New AI Paradigm

During the "Technology Debate" in Davos, Yann LeCun stated that generative AI and large language models (LLMs) have limitations that make them insufficient for truly advanced artificial intelligence. Among these limitations:

  • A lack of understanding of the physical world
  • No persistent memory
  • Limited reasoning capabilities
  • Rudimentary complex planning

According to him, these shortcomings will drive the emergence of a new AI model in the coming years, one that more closely resembles how humans perceive and interact with their environment.

        "World Models": A Key Advancement

LeCun emphasizes the importance of "world models," which aim to equip AI with memory, common sense, and reasoning abilities. These models will enable AI systems to understand and interact with the world more intuitively.

He predicts that within five years, we could see intelligent systems capable of learning through observation and interaction, marking a true revolution in artificial intelligence.

        The "Decade of Robotics"

While generative AI impresses with its ability to generate text or images, LeCun believes that the next major breakthrough will be the application of these advances in robotics. He envisions a decade of innovation in this field, where AI and robotics will converge to create intelligent systems suited for real-world scenarios.

Meta and other companies, such as OpenAI, are already investing in this direction. OpenAI is working on general-purpose robots capable of adapting to various tasks and interacting with their environment more naturally.

If Yann LeCun’s predictions come true, artificial intelligence will undergo a radical transformation within the next five years, with the emergence of more advanced and intuitive systems. Moreover, robotics could become a key sector, opening new opportunities for businesses and AI researchers.

The evolution of AI is just beginning, and the next decade promises to be filled with groundbreaking innovations.
